With Sinclair Group issuing it's own clampdown to enable it's Bushie supporters to pretend the Iraq war has no downside, John McCain and a host of others are outraged. My newspaper has printed the photos of the dead soldiers before. Just like it printed all (ALL) of the victims of 9/11 over many days. Why the bruhaha over showing pics on Nightline. Maybe AMerica should pretend that no one ever dies.
This is how the Bushies see the world. I'm surprised the Bushies don't accuse the dead soldiers of being unpatriotic for dying and making the President look bad.

Mission (Still?) accomplished
Bush today defended his remarks of a year ago when he said "MIssion Accomplished". (Well, he didn't say it the Navy did, oh wait, we told them to make the sign, but we didn't put it up...idiots) TOday, he says we're "Making progress". What exactly does that mean? I guess every morning that I wake up I'm "making progress", but if 12 months after you take over the country you have the WORST loss of life since the begining of the conflict, you hardly have PROGRESS.
More Iraqis hate us, Bush still has no plan to hand power over to a Player to be Named Later, Polls show most Iraqis see us as occupiers, and Rummy's still shocked that Americans weren't greated like we were in Paris in 1945. Progress my arse.
Bush started this mess, but the GOP keeps waiting for Kerry to come up with his plan. Those of us that opposed the war on the grounds that 1- iraq was no threat 2- Iraqi's should take care of themselves 3- there are other ways of regime change besides invasion and 4- Iraq was going to be a disaster after we took it over don't have to come up with ANY answers. Bush had the plan, he needs to finish the job and stop pretending we're (Americans) safer and stop imagining that having 100 Soldiers killed in a month is "Progress".

I've been busy
Just checking to see if this thing is still on. No one's reading this, so it doesn't matter, but I went back to work on Thurs after 4 wks off for surgery. Hence, my time for pointing out hypocrisy and commenting on other things has been limited.

U.S. Contractor Fired for Military Coffin Photo
Not that we didn't see this coming, but the Photographer that took the pic of the coffins was fired and so was her husband.
SHAMEFUL.
Heaven forbid America learn of the disaster that Bush pushed us into. Closing down newspapers, US Marshals confiscating tapes, firing people for taking pictures…and this group is going to SHOW Iraq how to be democratic and free…freakin’ hypocrites.

More Hypocrisy or my violence is better than your violence
THis from a Foxnews Story:
Brent Bozell, the founder of the conservative media watchdog group, the Parents Television Council, said if broadcast networks turned down “The Passion” because of disturbing scenes, “then there is rampant hypocrisy in the halls of Hollywood.
“There doesn’t seem to be a problem with other violent content,” he said.
The PTC has called on TV networks to stop airing graphically violent material. But it sent an alert to all of its members earlier this year urging them to go to the theater to see “The Passion.”
The movie “may be violent, but it is also one of the most beautiful, powerful and instructive movies ever made,” Bozell said.
He said the PTC wouldn’t endorse or oppose putting “The Passion” on television.
So, let's declare martial law when Janet Jackson shows a nipple, but pornographic violence is perfectly ok.

The National Review Blinks and Andy's there to catch them
The Nation Review appears not to have the stomach to finish what they so admatly pushed for. And Andrew Sullivan calls them on it.
NR appears to have gone soft from their previous stance, but keeps the UN and France bashing in tact. Andy is not pleased and makes some decent points and some self-serving ones in his continued defense of the man and adminstration that would make him Constitutionally a second class citizen. (I wonder about this as much as Eric Alterman does)

Politics of Fear or how W. runs this country
Rice did it with her “warning” (read: CYA) about terrorism before the elections and now Bush wants more draconian powers to control Americans. Again, using fear.
Funny how he’s so confident about making us safe, but he’ll play the “You’re all gonna die if I don’t get what I want card”.
Shameful

Hitch makes an admission...well, not really
Christopher Hitchens admits he might have made some miscalculations in his Pro-war rhetoric. In a piece called "Second Thinking: What I got wrong about Iraq".
Actually, it's not until the sixth paragraph that he actually talks about anything that HE believed. Until then it's all the usual "everyone else is an idiot" Hitchens drivel.
Then after that I'm not sure he admits anything at all. The line, like it came from the WH talking points : "The thing that I most underestimated is the thing that least undermines the case. And it's not something that I overlooked, either." displays that Hitch is still never wrong about anything.

No Bad deed by a Republican Hack goes unrewarded
The administration has announced its intention to make John Negroponte our first ambassador to postwar Iraq.
Mr. Negroponte, you may recall was instrumental in the Iran-Contra Criminality and guess what...he doesn't even speak Arabic. How the hell do you become ambassador to an Arab country when you don't speak the language. If the future freedom and democracy of Iraq is so critical (which it is, especially if Iraq is going to be the springboard for democracy in the region) why would you hire an ambassador completely unqualified for the job of ambassador.
Just another failure by this administration in dealing with the middle east.

Excuse Me?
The UK condemns the Israeli’s killing the leader of a known terrorist organization? I’m sorry, isn’t the UK and the US arm in arm trying to do the EXACT same thing to bin Laden? How is the leader of Hamas ANY DIFFERENT than the leader of al Queda?
The hypocrisy is astounding.
And a follow up…doesn’t this show that the UK resolve in fighting terrorism doesn’t extend as far as the US’s. Does this make the English just like the wimpy Frenchies?

They LIE ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING
Rove contended again today that "mission accomplished" sign didn't have to do with Iraq, but with the mission of the carrier. They continue to LIE and SPIN and DENY about every little thing, even a sign. Imagine the LIES about truly important issues from the WH.
They are disgraceful.

Canada to join Axis of Evil?
US Drug Czar blames Canada...Didn't South Park cover this already? I guess Eric Cartman could give as good advice as Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz.
He said the change had led to a doubling of hospital emergency cases involving marijuana.
“Doubling”? From what 4 to 8? From a million to 2 million? Are there really that many guys who’ve eaten so many Fig Newtons they have to go to the hospital?

Conservatives are whiney little babies
The Counter Clinton Library...are you kidding me?
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas -- A group dedicated to building the Counter Clinton Library -- a rebuttal to the Clinton Presidential Library -- has been granted status as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
I could care less about tax exempt status, but how freakin' obsessed and whiney can Conservatives be about Clinton. Grow up...you act like 8th grade girls.
Could you IMAGINE the outrage from the likes of Hannity and Limbaugh if there were a "Counter Reagan" library? One that told how Reagan's people sold weapons to our sworn enemy and used the cash to fund an illegal and Unconstitutional war in Central America? Just because Ronnie was in early stages or Alzheimer's or lied when he said he "couldn't remember" doesn't give him a pass. Does the Reagan Library have a wing with that info? Or a wing about selling weapons to Saddam, or not dealing with terrorism after 240+ Marines were murdered in Lebanon? Me thinks not.
Whiney little babies.

This is laughable
BUSH: One thing is for certain, though, about me, and the world has learned this: When I say something, I mean it. And the credibility of the United States is incredibly important for keeping world peace and freedom.
OH MY GOD, did he really just say that?
He's flip floped on SO MANY ISSUES and is grandiose pronouncements that lead no where are proof of this line of bullshit.
Remember: Hydrogen research, sending a man to Moon/Mars, Aid for AIDS in Africa, Immigration Reform. Puh-leeeze.

The unanswered question (twice)
QUESTION: Mr. President, why are you and the vice president insisting on appearing together before the 9/11 commission? And, Mr. President, who will we be handing the Iraqi government over to on June 30th?
BUSH: We’ll find that out soon. That’s what Mr. Brahimi is doing. He’s figuring out the nature of the entity we’ll be handing sovereignty over.
And, secondly, because the 9/11 commission wants to ask us questions, that’s why we’re meeting. And I look forward to meeting with them and answering their questions.
We going to hand control over on June 30, we don’t know to who, but that doesn’t matter. Now that’s a GREAT FREAKIN’ PLAN.
And a follow up for the President, “Could you answer the question about why you need Dick Cheney to hold your hand during the interview. We all KNOW why, but you could you just attempt to weasel out of this somehow? Thanks”

Can't get enough of the Shins
A couple of months ago, I put the Shins "Oh, Inverted World" in my CD player. I've listened to it nearly daily since then. It's just so damn good. So, if you don't have it...go get it. If you do have it, gve it another listen.
This is our "War President"
Too bad the Electioneering is getting in the way of paying attention to the worst week of Fighting in Iraq in a year.
A War President should probably be paying attention to the war instead of making campaign video love fests for the NASCAR dad crowd.
Shameful…once again.
Bush Catches Bass With Crew From TV Show By SCOTT LINDLAW
Associated Press Writer
CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush skipped a second round of fishing in his ranch pond Saturday with a crew from an outdoors show, though his performance the day before was something to brag about.
"He took the biggest one of the day," a bass nearly four pounds, said Roland Martin, host of the Outdoor Life Network program, "Fishing with Roland Martin."
The president and Martin released several big fish they caught Friday but kept the smaller ones for eating.
Bush had been scheduled to spend Saturday with his father, the former president, and Martin and his crew on the pond at Bush's Crawford ranch.
Instead, by happenstance Martin, the president and a Secret Service agent trolled for bass Friday afternoon. They rode in Martin's 21-foot boat, powered by a 250-horsepower engine, but in the small ranch pond, they used the boat's outboard trolling engine, Martin said in an interview.
"The president was very relaxed," Martin said.
The unexpected Friday footage came as the crew was filming at the pond and Bush "came motoring down" in his pickup to chat, Martin said. They discussed the next day's scheduled shoot.
At about 5:30 p.m., Bush looked at his watch and said he had time to "make a couple casts, so we jumped into the boat real quick."
Iraq didn't come up. "He didn't really talk about politics at all," Martin said. "He was just relieved to have a minute to fish."
The TV host said Bush is "a very accomplished fisherman. He handled the tackle really well and caught three fish," Martin said. "He complains he doesn't fish there enough; so he misses that a lot."
They floated on the pond for about 1 1/2 hours. White House aides told Martin that "things were kind of calmed down" in Iraq and that prospects were good for another session Saturday.
Then Saturday proved a perfect example of what happens when the president's job gets in the way of his hobby, Martin said.
Martin and his crew returned to the ranch at about 6:30 a.m., and Bush was already in conferences in the ranch house.
As Martin and his crew cleaned the boat for the excursion on the pond, Bush's entourage pulled up.
"He said, `Hey, Roland, sorry it didn't work out. I had things to do,'" Martin recalled. "He really wanted to finish, but he had all his things to do."
Martin believed that events in Iraq had forced Bush to cancel the Saturday shoot. "He alluded to it. He said, `I've been busy, all these crises,'" Martin recalled.
Martin said he was disappointed he had lost the fishing time with Bush Saturday, because Bush's father had planned to join them.
The fishing commentator said he has long known the family and previously fished with the first President Bush.
But he said he was mystified as to how the face time with the current president had come to be.
Officials at the Outdoor Life Network said the White House had approached them.
Bush has been courting the millions of voters who fish and hunt.
On Wednesday, he led a tour for about 20 representatives of hunting and fishing groups, including Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. Bush was supposed to fish with Martin's crew that afternoon, but on a day of raging violence in Iraq, he put it off.
The White House would not release details of the session Friday or Saturday events. Nor did the White House mention that Martin's crew had filmed on the ranch Wednesday.
Bush had walked to the pond that day, "dropped a line and caught a nice crappie, about a pound and a half, and let (Bush's Scottish terrier) Barney sniff at it a little bit," Martin said.
The administration is sensitive to charges Bush is loafing at a time of chaos and bloodshed in Iraq. He is spending a week at the ranch and plans to return to Washington on Monday after a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The White House released a photo of Bush meeting with his national security team Saturday.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush had spoken with Gen. John Abizaid, head of U.S. Central Command, and Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator in Iraq.
The White House did not release a photo of Bush fishing.
The Outdoor Life Network will air the program in August, Martin said.

O'Reilly "proves" "elite" (Read: Liberal) media with ignorance of English Language
Bill stated on his Talking Points section that the "Elite Media" had misled us again, by calling the events in Fallujah an "uprising". You see, according to Bill, it was an "insurgency". While some may think that is a pretty lame case of splitting semantical hairs to prove that we had been "misled", Roget's seems to think it's even lamer.
Entry: uprising
Function: noun
Definition: disturbance
Synonyms: insurgence, insurrection, mutiny, outbreak, rebellion, revolt, revolution, riot, upheaval

Bill said this "spinning" made him upset. But, should we be surprised that while Bill is busy indicting the Liberal Media on semantical points, he'd have made an effort to look at a Thesaurus?

Some questions for Condi
• Terrorists were at war with us, but we were not with them, you said. Exactly WHAT terrorists are you speaking of? “Terrorism” has many faces, and this administration likes to mention “terrorism” every time it opens it’s mouth, so what terrorists should we have been at war with? All of them? The ETA? the IRA? Shining Path? Hamas? Tamil Tigers? Hezbollah?
• A memo titled “Bin Laden to attack in the United States” was not a “warning”. Well, what exactly is a warning to you? Are you telling me for this administration to pay ANY attention to a memo like that it would have to have places, dates, times, names, etc? Yet, I keep hearing the threat levels raised in this United States on the basis of Chatter that doesn’t include that information. Are you telling me that when the threat level is raised, it’s not really a warning?
• Please explain the difference of a “Plan” and a “Strategy”. In my real world experience a plan (like the one given to you by the Clinton administration) is actionable while a Strategy is a high level document. And if you are the National Security Advisor why couldn’t YOU decree that PLANS should be set to motion? Why are you waiting for Richard Clarke to put plans into effect, he has no power to do that. If you or the President weren’t going to initiate action who should have?

WH spinning news out of Iraq
How come the “liberal media” hasn’t made a big deal about this?
Bushies spin news coming out of Iraq:
"Iraq is in danger of costing George W. Bush his presidency and the CPA's media staff are determined to see that does not happen," Robison said. "I had the impression in dealing with the civilians in the Green Room that they viewed their job as essentially political, promoting what the Coalition Provisional Authority is doing in Iraq as a political arm of the Bush administration," he added."
"One CPA staffer who spoke on condition of anonymity said the press office had sent targeted "good news" releases to American television, radio and newspaper outlets that were timed to deflect criticism of Bush during the Democratic primaries."

O'Reilly still spinning own Bio
As you may know from Reading Al Franken's book (p79), Bill O'Reilly has a novel that he wrote a few years ago and contains some graphic sex and violence. Which makes his rants against the violence in rap a little HYPOCRITICAL, no?
Also, in Franken's book you learn that O'Reilly spins his own hometown. Franken points out that Bill claims to have grown up in the "Westbuy section of Levittown, ny". These are two seperate towns 7MILES apart that Bill uses to show that his childhood wasn't middle class suburban...which it is (and is for a lot of people, so why the shame?). Anyway, a quick view on Mapblast will show you the distance between the two (7.1 Miles). Despite Franken calling out this obvious SPIN, Bill's bio on Foxnews.com still contains this misrepresentation (as of 5 minutes ago).
So, as I'm reading the hypocrites bio, I learn that Mel Gibson's production company has optioned O'Reilly's novel...mentioned above. I don't watch Bill too often, so maybe you can tell me, when Bill was heaping praise on the Passion of the Christ did Bill mention his financial partnership?
